Most adjustments and edits can be made in Lightroom. Many people think they need to get Photoshop to adjust their images but usually, this isn’t the case. It is the industry standard when it comes to this. Lightroom has state of the art tools for editing your photos.

Whereas in iPhoto, the actual images are hidden and it’s not the easiest to find the original files. But, even if it isn’t, all of my photos will still be accessible and I can know exactly where they are because they are organized with Lightroom, but remain in an easy to navigate folder structure independent of it.

Lightroom has all the benefits of a beautiful piece of software to view your images, while still having your photos organized in visible easy to access folders on your hard drive, or external hard drive. Yes, you can dig around and get the images out, or export them, but this is the main thing I don’t like about iPhoto. iPhoto stores everything in it’s catalog in one file. From an archiving perspective, Lightroom does not store the images in the Lightroom Catalog.

You can sort by the camera you used, or by the metadata in the images in both pieces of software. Both are a means of transportation and will ultimately get you there, but the car ( Lightroom) has a lot more features and with the proper training can achieve superior results in less time.īoth Lightroom and iPhoto have varying methods for viewing your images whether it is chronologically, in collections, folders etc. Comparing the two is a little like comparing a go-cart to a modern car.
